Sharpen Your Skills

‘Sharpen Your Skills’ is an English skills book designed to complement the grammar and topics taught in the 4th grade main English course while incorporating CLIL based activities to broaden the students’ knowledge of the world in English. The content-based lessons have been carefully selected and aim to teach and reinforce the understanding of subject topics which pupils learn in their other classes, through the medium of English.

Sharpen Your Skills’ affords the learners the opportunity to grasp the academic, social, and cultural aspects of the English language through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The book is colourfully laid out with an overall appearance that is attractive and appealing to learners. Each unit is unique to capture the students’ attention and to avoid repetition.

Every unit begins with an overview and continues with a presentation that is interesting and relevant to the students. Some units are used mainly to recycle and reinforce vocabulary and grammar structures, while other units are dedicated to CLIL based lessons. The themes and cross-curricular topics are age appropriate (upper elementary and middle school) and are presented in a meaningful context. The language used is at a level comprehensible and manageable to 2nd language learners.

Most importantly, ‘Sharpen Your Skills’ allows students to think critically and creatively. Students learn to use the four skills in integration and simultaneously. And, they learn to link English with other school subjects and world topics which leads to success in the classroom and success in everyday life!
